Even though a Batribike is built for the Danish weather, winter requires a little extra attention if you want to extend the life of your electric bike.
Here are four tips for your electric bike when the weather gets colder.
1. Take the battery inside Battery cells do not like extreme cold. When the temperature drops to freezing, the battery loses capacity faster. Therefore, always take the battery inside in a warm place when you are not using the bike – and charge it at room temperature. This gives both a longer range and a longer lifespan.
2. Charge the battery, even if the e-bike is in hibernation You care for the battery by charging it continuously throughout the winter, even if you are not using the e-bike. We recommend charging the battery at least once a month, but the more times the better. It is not good for the battery cells inside the battery if it is discharged for a long time. A good tip is to set a calendar reminder on your mobile phone so that you remember.
3. Wash off the salt Road salt is a bike's worst enemy. It attacks the chain, sprockets and electrical connections. Make it a habit to rinse your bike with lukewarm water (without high pressure!) if you have been riding on salted roads. Remember to lubricate the chain more often in the winter.
4. Check your tire pressure In cold weather, tire pressure can drop. If you drive with underinflated tires, you increase rolling resistance, which drains the battery faster. Make sure your tires are fully inflated – this also reduces the risk of punctures in wet conditions. A rule of thumb is to inflate your tires at least once a month.
